About
Meet Marissa
My name is Marissa and I’m a somatic practitioner and trauma-informed coach. Through the use of self inquiry, somatic practices and emotional alchemy, I support folks ready to get to the root of what is blocking access to embodying their innate wholeness, aliveness and sovereignty.
I’m here to:
-
Be a guide on your journey towards uncovering and understanding your deepest rooted patterns - in order for you to lead a life with more freedom and choice.
-
Reconnect you with your body and help learn its language.
-
Help you re-connect to the Earth’s natural wisdom and rhythms as a huge support on your healing journey.
Outside of this work, you can find me outside in nature - hiking, camping, throwing fetch for my dog, or just laying in the grass absorbing the sunshine. I love studying herbalism, going on silent retreats, hosting tea ceremonies, finding $1 oysters, thrifting and doing kundalini yoga.

As long as one doesn't examine oneself, one is completely subject to whatever one is wired to do, but once you become aware that you have choices, you can exercise those choices.
- Bessel van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score

What is somatic therapy?
This is a body-centered approach that recognizes humans are holistic beings and for true healing, we must work on all levels of our being: mental, physical, emotional, behavioral and spiritual.
Think about it like a forest ecosystem: In a forest, nothing happens in isolation. A drought in the canopy becomes tension in the roots. A disturbance in the soil becomes a shift in the leaves. A single imbalance ripples through the whole system.
Similarly, stress and unprocessed experiences can show up physically as tension, specific postures, breath patterns, or a sense of being stuck. If we only looked at one part, we wouldn't understand the whole.
The work I do is embodied - while there will be talking, we will also explore your experience through other channels like mindfulness, breath, movement, expression and more.
One of the main aims of the work is to help you tap into your truest self. To do that, we have to move beyond the mind.

Self observation is absolutely essential if i wish to know myself and mature into a human being and not remain on the mammal level of existence - an unconscious, habit driven, mechanical and automatic-pilot slave to my personal history and unconscious forced derived from that history.
